The Catholic Church in a Digital World
Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli,President, Pontifical Council for Social Communications. I want to begin this message by reflecting on what it is we intend when we are talking about the Catholic Church in the context of communications.
Communications for Pastoral Leadership is a formation program envisaged by the Catholic Bishops Conference of India’s (CBCI) Commission for Social Communications for all those engaged in the pastoral ministry of the Church. The Church in India considers social communications as one of its priorities. This became evident in the choice of the theme for the CBCI’s 2004 General Assembly held in Trichur, Kerala, which took up the theme “Called to be a Communicating Church". The final statement as well as the national pastoral plan for social communications which emerged as the fruit of this General Assembly, among other things, stressed the importance of formation of church leaders in social communications. The present program is the fruit of enormous research and team work, and is indebted to many people, commissions and associations.
